Healthy Habitats
The IERCD’s Healthy Habitats program encourages students to explore wildlife and understand how animals, like us, depend on natural resources. Designed to align with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), this program can be integrated into your classroom curriculum to enhance your students’ learning experience. Students will learn what constitutes a healthy habitat and discover simple ways to create wild spaces at home.
Our hands-on activity involves using repurposed materials for students to create their very own bird feeder, which they can place on a tree branch and observe the various birds that visit. For younger grades, the program includes an engaging lesson on the life cycle of butterflies and other pollinators, highlighting their crucial role in our environment, and a butterfly finger puppet to take home.
