Native Plant Nursery
About
The IERCD operates two native plant nurseries, both located in Jurupa Valley, California. These facilities are dedicated to propagating locally sourced native plants to support habitat restoration, enhancement projects, and community engagement throughout the region.
The nurseries primarily grow native plants for IERCD's Natural Resources Team, which manages projects across a diverse range of habitats and plant communities within our district's service area. Since their establishment, the nurseries have produced over 5,000 plants of more than 100 different native species to contribute to healthier ecosystems and stronger local biodiversity.

Glen Avon Nursery
Established in 2018 at Huerta del Valle's Jurupa Valley Glen Avon Park, this original 1,800-square-foot nursery was built over the course of three months and has been a cornerstone of IERCD’s restoration efforts. It has produced the bulk of our plants since its inception, supporting projects managed by IERCD, Huerta del Valle, and the Rivers and Lands Conservancy (RLC).

LRPPG Nursery
The most recent addition to the nursery program is located at the Louis Robidoux Parkland and Pecan Grove, a property that is managed in collaboration between IERCD and multiple partners. This second nursery adds 768 square feet of growing space. Its public location makes it perfect for hosting educational workshops and hands-on volunteer events.
Why use locally sourced seeds?
The IERCD is committed to using locally sourced seeds, which are carefully collected by our Natural Resources Team. Using best practices, the team ensures that seeds are gathered sustainably. They leave enough for the wild population to thrive and avoid overharvesting from any single plant.
These locally sourced seeds are uniquely adapted to the Inland Empire’s climate, soil, and environmental conditions, resulting in plants that are more resilient to pests and diseases and better suited to support native wildlife. This approach also helps preserve genetic diversity within plant populations and promotes ecological stability and adaptability to future environmental changes.
By growing plants from seeds collected in this thoughtful and sustainable way, our nurseries not only provide vital resources for IERCD’s restoration projects but also produce plants that thrive in the Inland Empire. Whether for habitat enhancement, community giveaways, or school programs, these plants play a critical role in creating healthier, more resilient ecosystems.
Get Involved
The nurseries are not just for restoration work—they are community resources! Our Nursery Volunteer Events invite participants to:
- Learn about native plants and their role in the environment.
- Engage in hands-on activities like potting and replanting.
- Gain insight into the importance of habitat restoration and conservation.
